Bathroom Wall Panels Buying Guide: Sizes, Finishes and Brands
Bathroom wall panels are one of the fastest-growing home improvement products in the UK. Knowing what to look for — and what to avoid — makes all the difference.
Step 1: Choose Your Material
PVC
The most widely used bathroom panel material. Lightweight, flexible, easy to cut, fully waterproof. Good choice for most bathrooms and DIY installations.
SPC (Stone Plastic Composite)
Denser, more rigid, heavier, more impact-resistant. Better sound and thermal insulation. More expensive, but worth it for premium renovations. See our full SPC vs PVC comparison.
Step 2: Choose Your Width
- 200mm — classic, traditional tongue-and-groove look
- 300mm — transitional, versatile
- 600mm — modern, near-seamless
- 1000mm — contemporary, fully seamless
Step 3: Choose Your Finish
Marble Effect — the most popular finish in the UK. Look for embossed texture for realism. Stone Effect — travertine, limestone, slate. Best in 600–1000mm widths. Wood Effect — oak, walnut, ash. Popular for Japandi-inspired bathrooms. Solid Colours — high-gloss white is classic; matt finishes growing in popularity.
Step 4: Check the Specification
- Thickness: Standard PVC 5–10mm; SPC 10–12mm. Thicker = better quality.
- Wear layer: 0.3mm minimum for scratch resistance.
- Waterproof certification: Should be stated explicitly.
What to Avoid
- Panels without a specified wear layer — scratch easily
- Solvent-based adhesive — can react with PVC and cause warping
- Missing trims — water ingress and poor finish at joins
